Comments on Pulmonary Valve Replacement: Adult Congenital Heart Surgery
@theavarice101
I have never been a warfarin and I am not on any medications. The only medications I ever took was after the surgery for pain relief. I’m gald I’m not taking any meds for my heart condition.
I got treated at University of California, Davis Medical Center. I have the same heart surgeon for the last two surgeries.
Do you have any restrictions on your health condition?
@sactownism they used to take pulmonary valves out to replace aortic valves with them before synthetic valves so I’m not the first person to be walking round without a pulmonary valve!
So youve never been on warfarin or any other meds? I would hate to be on them! I can never remember to take anything!!
What hospital do you get treated at, I get treated at University College London now.

That’s crazy that you don’t have a pulmonary valve in you. I’m not sure if it’s biosythetic, but all I know is that I will be getting another valve replacement soon. My cardiologist wanted to put a cow valve in me when I was 13, but I guess he decided not to. I also have a small hole in my heart wall which tore open again and need to get it patched up. It’s crazy how I always get diagnosed with new heart conditions each time.
@sactownism Thats really all I have, pulmonary valve stenosis as a child diagnosed as an infant, was cyanotic and defibrillated at birth, had a balloon inflated in the valve to damage it and had it done again at 3 years of age so i now effectively have no pulmonary valve. I might be getting it replaced soon but my cardiologist keeps putting it off cos im pretty much asymptomatic and im currently in medical school. So do you have a biosythetic valve that you need to get replaced often then?
@theavarice101
I think I have the homograft valve. My heart conditions have affected me a lot. I can’t play any competitive sports and I was also taken off my PE class during my junior and high school years. So far I have 3 surgeries and more to come in the future. I had my first pulmonary heart valve replaced at age 5 and second at the age of 13. In 2009, I had a pacemaker implanted in me. I’m a 20 yo male
If you don’t mind, I would like to hear about your medical condition.
@sactownism Hey! Sorry to hear of your condition(s), Thats really unfortunate, I was born with pulmonary valve stenosis and had balloon valvotomies as a new born and again at 3yo, Im now 21 and I might be getting an artificial valve too.
Do you mind me asking what type of valve you have (Biosynth/mechanical) and how it affects your life? Are you warfarinised? Sorry for pestering you on youtube but I thought I would take the opportunity to ask! Many thanks, Jay.
Thanks for your comments. I’m happy to hear that you have done so well. If you every need us, we’re here to help.
Sincerely,
Redmond Burke MD
I am guessing that’s the same thing my heart surgeon did the same thing to me. I had my pulmonary heart valve replaced when I was 13 years old. And last year of 2009 I was diagnosed with another heart condition called sick sinus syndrome. And had a pacemaker implanted in me. I’m glad to be alive and I thank my surgeon for that.
